解放战争后期，我军西线围歼战役即将取得胜利。国民党西线部队独立团趁着夜色向西逃去。上级将参与西部战役的某师调往东线，于是该师派出庄连长带领小分队，在当地军分区的配合下，继续追击敌军。这股国民党残部隐匿在黑山寺待命，并且有不少士兵患上传染病。追击部队遵照“尽量保护当地百姓，减少我部伤亡，设法迫降敌军，并给予救治，以后甄别整编”的上级指示展开行动。庄连长得知当地韦医生心向共产党且医术好，前往寻找，不料敌方先行将韦医生骗上山。庄连长等扮作韦医生的助手进入寺院，与韦医生配合一边治疗病人，阻断疫情，以免病情蔓延至当地百姓中，一边了解坑道结构。最终我方控制了疫情，并通过坑道救出了希望脱离国民党的士兵。至此，国民党独立团残部掌控的黑山寺恢复了安定，疫情没有蔓延，特殊的剿匪与解救任务圆满完成。。The series begins when suspected human remains are uncovered on Whitney Marsh - Jess and Sunny are immediately called to the scene, abandoning their evening plans to Jess’s husband’s chagrin.
